MASSAGE THERAPISTS

We Help Massage Therapists
It took a lot of hard work for you to earn your massage therapy license. A 500-hour training program, or perhaps 1,000 hours, was required of you. Maybe you got yourself a CPR certification. Next, you had to pass a licensing exam. It's the last thing you want to hear that your license is in danger.
When your state licensing agency, the Virginia Board of Nursing, receives a complaint, it can begin an investigation, and you never know how it will turn out for you.
Getting help is important if you are facing questions and discipline. You can rely on Attorney Tori Bramble to help protect your license. In addition to knowing the law, she is familiar with how the Board works. Her goal is to make sure that you get the best possible outcome. Contact Tori Bramble at 703-740-1129 as soon as you find out you're being investigated.
Your License Is Important
A massage therapist's license is everything. The license doesn't just give you the right to practice. As a massage therapist, you help people, improve their health, and make their lives better. Your massage therapy training and experience show everyone you're capable. Probably most importantly, it lets your customers know you're a trustworthy company.
Keeping your license back isn't just about whether or not a state board allows you to work - it's about your professional and personal reputation. It's something you've got to protect.
What Can Happen to Me?
As a massage therapist, what's the biggest worry? What could go wrong that could endanger your license?
-
Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs
-
Crossing professional boundaries with clients or inappropriate behavior
-
Using unlicensed employees to do licensed jobs
-
Taking on a job that's outside the scope of your license
-
Unsanitary practices, like failing to clean linens or disinfect equipment between clients
These acts could all lead to an investigation. Unhappy customers, employees, or competitors might falsely accuse you, of course. Even if you're cleared, an investigation can damage your reputation if you don't watch out.
Having professional representation is so important. Besides handling meetings and hearings, Attorney Tori Bramble and her Professional License Defense Team can help you manage your image too.
What Should You Expect?
Virginia's massage therapist licensing board, the Virginia Board of Nursing, has its own complaints process. An investigation generally consists of four parts.
-
Complaints usually begin with someone filing a complaint. This someone could might be a colleague, customer, or other person or company. On top of that, your licensing board probably conducts periodic inspections, and complaints can arise.
-
Next, the Virginia Board of Nursing as your licensing agency will investigate any complaints made against you. You'll probably meet with them to tell your story, but you should not do it alone. Any physical evidence the Board finds will be collected and can be used against you. There's also a good chance they'll talk to your coworkers.
-
If you admit to the charges there will usually be a sanction by agreement. A "Consent Order" explains your infraction and what penalty the board has assigned you. A consent order can sometimes be private, but more often it's a public document to show the public that the board is serious.
-
Any decision against you can be challenged in court. There's a hearing where you can present evidence and call witnesses. Any witnesses against you can also be cross-examined. And, most importantly, you have the right to an attorney, who can represent you, speak for you, and protect your rights.
When a complaint is filed against you, Tori Bramble and her Licensure professional license defense team can help. She helps to:
-
Make sure you understand the charges in the complaint
-
Assist you with preparing your case, coming up with a defense strategy, tracking down witnesses, and collecting any evidence you need
-
Represent you at all investigations
-
Keeping track of the case so you know where you stand
-
Respond to the accusation officially
-
Drop the charges by putting pressure on the board
-
Represent you in hearings
-
Appeal, if necessary
It's important to know that the sooner you act, the better your chances are. Whenever there's a complaint, you should handle it immediately because by the time you're facing a board hearing, it might already be too late to save your license.
